Not Getting a Job Offer.

by Sherry Ellingson

Job interviews can be extremely disappointing. After spending time reviewing, revising and sending out your resume and application to potential companies, you finally land an interview.

You feel confident with your skills, education, and experience. The job sounds wonderful, and you took the time to dress appropriately for the company and the roll you are hoping to land.

Stress can impact your ability to get a job offer.
Stress can impact your ability to get a job offer.

You interview and feel like you answered everything well and asked the appropriate questions. Deep down you feel like something was off, but not sure what it was.

I'm not here to tell you what that was, I am not psychic. However I know as someone who has hired tons of people for many years that there is a second layer. Meaning that something in the interviewing process was not aligning with the person that was sitting in front of me. In my current position I have worked with many people who have been looking for work or trying to change careers and can't seem to get the offer, even though on the surface level they have the credentials. However when I dig deep I find out the person is having something else that is not working out in their life. It may be a divorce process, a sick pet, roommate issues or something else that has a negative impact on the person's emotional well being.

You take the energy of anxiety, sadness and worry with you in to an interview, and in some cases the interviewee can sense that something is not right. Similar to not getting enough sleep which can impact your physical and mental wellness, having issues in life that are significant can impact other areas such as interviewing and trying to find work.

Please share this with someone who you think may need it.
